What is a Summary Judgment?

After discovery, depositions, and expert reports have been exchanged, either party may want to proceed to win their case or part of the case without having a trial.  The court will examine whether there's no real chance of success for a claim, issue, or defense, and if there's no other compelling reason for a trial.
