What is CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE?

A certificate of service is a sentence or paragraph stating and proving that the plantiff/defendant will notify the other party of the legal  document. Usually it is included at the end of legal document and followed by the plaintiff or defendant's signature. The document can be mailed, emailed or hand delivered. If not done, it can delay the progress of the case. A certificate of service is NOT the same as a formal process of service.
