Congratulations! You're engaged or have made a mutual decision to get married. Next, you and your future spouse will need to apply for your marriage license together in the Florida County of your choosing (you can apply in your county and have the ceremony anywhere in Florida). Some counties offer an online option to apply for your marriage license and all offer to apply in person at the Clerk of Courts. Once your license has been issued, it is valid for 60 calendar days. If you have taken the pre-marital course, the 3-day waiting period does not apply. However if you have not taken the pre-marital course then you must wait 3 days before you can marry. If you desire to have our Officiant apply for your marriage license on your behalf, we can assist and will charge a nominal fee for this service.
Marriage license fee in all Florida counties is $86. If you and your future spouse complete the pre-marital course, the fee is $61.
Before we can officiate your special day, you must have applied and been issued your license.
(Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk offer ONLINE marriage applications)
The state of Florida recommends that you and your future spouse take a pre-marital course as an effort to help strengthen your marriage and reduce divorce rates. The course is 4 hours and can be completed in person or electronically. You would complete this prior to applying for your marriage license and include the course completion certificate with your filing. You and your future spouse will receive a discount ($25 discount) on the marriage application. You also do not have to wait the 3-day waiting period to marry after issuance of your marriage license.
*Our officiant and Pro Se Solutions Inc is not affiliated with any pre-marital course provider and we do not receive any compensation from any provider if you choose to take this course
You will have many options to choose from to host your wedding day. Knowing and planning in advance, preferably a minimum of a 4-6 weeks, will save you the inconvenience of having your special date already booked, weather interruptions and vendor availability
Fortunately Florida does not require you and your future spouse to take a blood test prior to obtaining your license or before marriage. If you are a new resident or reside out of the state of Florida, there is no waiting period required or need to confirm how long you have lived in Florida. The only waiting period is the standard 3-days waiting period after your marriage license is issued before marrying IF you do not complete the pre-marital course.
